About Skip the Rental
I'm Gabriel. I travel a lot, and the rental desk kept getting me: prices jumping in season, a card refused, a deposit frozen for weeks, insurance pushed on me. At home in Lithuania I switched to car sharing. I made this free site so you can check, anywhere in Europe, whether car sharing or a rental car is cheaper for your trip.
What the site does
You give a city, dates and kilometres. The site prices the same trip twice, as a rental car and as car sharing, with fuel, fees and standard insurance on both sides, and says plainly when the rental is cheaper. It covers 39 countries and 101 car-sharing services. How the prices are calculated.
What I check myself, and what I don't
- Lithuania: I live here and drive CityBee, Spark and Bolt Drive. The Lithuania guide is written from my own trips.
- Other countries: compiled from the operators' own price lists, terms and help pages. Each of those guides says so at the top and lists its sources at the bottom.
- Prices: some services are read from their price pages every night, others are checked by hand; every guide shows when it last changed. The app always has the final word.
How it's paid for
Tips on Ko-fi, nothing else. No ads, no affiliate links, and nobody pays to be listed.
Who is behind it
I run the site through my small Lithuanian company, MB „Expat Mates“ (company code 306289251). It's a hobby project and sells nothing.
